Game Crashes when ESCAPE is pressed

Hello everyone. First of all thanks for this website and forum its nice that this game has a website and its community I was nicely surprised.

Could someone help me I am trying to run the game with windows 10 but I have some serious problems.

Game starts fine, menu works fine, I can even play fine, but when I press ESC or F5 the game instantly crashes with no error message.
I need a way to save and load the game so I can play the single player, but whenever I try to visit menu from the game it crashes.
Also when I finished the first mission it also crashed.

I haven't rename ani exe file nothing like that I just downloaded and installed this link (https://sof1.org/sof1-download) and thats it.

That's a rather unique error, I've not personally seen or heard of this happening to anyone else.
I'll take a look into potentially what it would be.

Where have you saved SoF, what's the file directory path?

Have you ever played this game before? Used a different client in the past perhaps?

Can you tell me what sp_language is currently set to?

You would need to go into a game server and open the console in order to type in the command.

Usually the keybinding for this is the button under escape or ' which is left of '#'; octothorpe / pound symbol on your keyboard.

try deleting User/config.cfg then trying again.
have you tried reinstalling sof again?

At this point if it doesnt work out of box, it suggest something is off with your pc/hardware.
Give hardware specs please.

I installed it here: c:\Program Files (x86)\Soldier of Fortune\
Yes I palyed the game before, but its been a long time I had different pc, much older windows, and I probably had no issues back then.
I dont know what sp_language means. I play the game in english if thats the question. Also I cant open the console, when I pressed the button under escape the game crashes again. Really strange behaviors true.

Yes I wil try delete the config, however I think the only thing I was changign was the resolution.
Not yet, but I can try. Also maybe I could go for different folder, than program files.
I have i7-9700 cpu, 32 gb ram and Geforce RTX 2080s.

Ye this one is super important, good job for spotting it (ah n1 keifer). There are some weird UAC permission things related to that folder, iirc it creates some virtual folder somewhere else? atleast it used to. We generally avoid that folder I think. (someone can confirm?)

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore
Windows 7 and above.

If trying to delete "config.cfg", that is where it would be (there would be subfolders then the games folder and so on)

But uninstalling and using something like Revo Uninstaller, to remove all traces, then reinstalling, letting the Community Edition install where it suggests, be a permanent solution and easier to troubleshoot issues, if any.

SoF CE used to avoid that folder, maybe i overlooked it in the newer versions ?

Also he is from CZECH, they used to have their own gameclient to launch sof (like how we use Steam). Maybe it's conflicting ?

I just had to install it to a normal folder and forget the program files. Everything I had a problem with is fixed after new installation.
So this can be locked, thank you all for the help!
